Dirimart proudly presents the exhibition titled SILENT SYMPHONY by the artist duo Florian & Michael Quistrebert, which focuses on experiencing light and reflection both in the gallery space and on the painting surface . The exhibition, in which the duo explores physical matter and unstable surfaces, thus pushes the limits of human perception.____
SILENT SYMPHONY establishes a relationship between the brothers' last two works , the video installation titled Grand Orgue and the Silent Watchers paintings, similar to the dialogue of two different beings who chat with each other beyond words. Combining numerous visual effects with different effects specific to the material (such as impastos, bulges, projection), the exhibition also enriches the kaleidoscope effect experience that stands out in the duo's practice.______________
The exhibition is shaped around the video installation titled Grand Orgue (2021) , which is positioned at the centre of the space and magnifies the exhibition like a 'main source'. This installation, which resembles a monument, consists of a video that resembles a symphony of colours and spreads into the space by extending into three dimensions. This new form resembles a fascinating source that spreads the music within it to all dimensions, influencing the entire space with its luminous presence and repeating colourful waves. The disembodied structure of the monument blurs into an imaginary space that resembles a cosmic gate positioned beyond consciousness. The surface shapes according to light to create an unstable structure. The dematerialisation of concrete architecture allows the viewer to experiment with physical matter and realise the power of reflection and irony.____
The installation titled _Grand Orgue___is accompanied by a series of portraits consisting of mute faces, whose silent presence looks at this surface with complex emotions. These portraits, on which colourful gradients leave a hazy glow, are shaped by architectural features reminiscent of the brutalist style. Light appears as the basic element in the paintings of the Quistrebert brothers. This contradiction between cold architectural lines and fluctuating colours points to an emotional tension that, although trapped in the portraits, is activated by the internal music of the monument. Working with various light sources and light-defining materials, the Quistrebert duo thus performs a performance in which they use canvas and material to emphasise movement and create something optically provocative.
SILENT SYMPHONY can be visited at Dirimart Dolapdere between 9 February and 10 March 2024.
