Gallery Baton is pleased to present an exhibition titled, Liquid Modernity —a selection of significant works by Tatsuo Miyajima, Jaye Rhee, Tobias Rehberger, Rinus Van de Velde, Heeseung Chung, Song Burnsoo, Bin Woo Hyuk, Yuichi Hirako, and Rho Eunjoo.
Liquid Modernity, the main theme of renowned philosopher Zygmunt Bauman, makes a compelling diagnosis of the post-modernist world and proposes a solution to how we can survive within a disheveled system in which numerous errors and values coexist and confront. Coincidentally, the outbreak of Covid-19, which has driven the whole planet to a crisis, indicates the fundamental fallacy of the Modernist view that has believed the unpredictable world and its coincidences as something to be eliminated.
Baton's proposal aims to harmonically visualize how the artists symbolically express the various appearances and reactions of human under the contemporary world, named Liquid Modernity. It is designed to explore the possibility of contemporary art as a medium of unique interpretation of social phenomena, not a mere expression of aesthetic values.
