Born in Busan, Korea in 1961, Lee Jin Yong's oil paintings evoke a sense of notalgia and fondness for a time gone by. His paintings could be interpreted as photo-realism due to his meticulous depictions of objects such as bags, books, suitcases, instruments, cameras, and typewriters. Lee Jin Yong says he is fascinated by the history encapsulated in such objects and the aura of craftmanship inherent in each object. While he paints his subjects from memory, he has spent years observing bags and books to have reached the stage of "pictorial visualization of the subject that does not exist in reality". He has also produced installation works by bringing together his collections of antiques and displaying them alongisde his paintings.
