MAKI Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the inaugural edition of ART SG in Singapore. For the largest ever art fair in Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific's biggest fair launch in a decade, MAKI Gallery will present five artists from its diverse program: Miya Ando, baanai, Takuro Tamura, Keisuke Tada, and Ayumu Yamamoto.
Miya Ando (b. 1973 in Los Angeles) uses a wide range of organic and industrial materials including steel, aluminum, and wood to capture the ephemerality of nature while skillfully fusing traditional and contemporary, as well as Eastern and Western, techniques. baanai (b. 1977 in Kanagawa, Japan) continuously inscribes a single phrase—ARIGATOU GOZAIMASU, or "thank you very much" in Japanese—in various styles, producing richly layered canvases that draw the viewer in. Takuro Tamura (b. 1989 in Osaka, Japan) merges asphalt and other transportation-related motifs with plant imagery, inviting contemplation on the complex relationship between humans and nature. Keisuke Tada (b. 1986 in Aichi, Japan) questions the existence of objects in relation to its space by utilizing paint as material to mold and convincingly replicate rusty chains or decaying wood on canvas. Ayumu Yamamoto (b. 1995 in Tokyo, Japan) imagines a fantastical world bursting with color where people, animals, plants, objects, and trinkets all coexist in a crystallized form.
We look forward to seeing you at Booth 1A07.
