Artist Profile

Scott Miles is a Melbourne based artist. Since 2007 he has had three solo exhibitions and participated in a variety of group exhibitions. Miles’ current work is concerned with depicting familiar environments where time and history are often displaced. Images are invested with subtle signifiers that play upon the act of observing, remembering and reconstructing. Miles’ work stems from an interest in the possibilities that may emerge between rational and subconscious readings of unknown situations. An exploration of parallel fictions are often at play and familiar scenarios are invested with a sense of uncertainty. Scott’s paintings have been exhibited at various institutions and galleries throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Geelong Gallery recently acquired Scott's painting that was in the Fletcher Jones Art Prize exhibition. Scott’s work has been featured in various publications and he has been recognized with several awards and grants, such as the third prize in the Linden Postcard Show in St. Kilda, Victoria in 2008.
