How does art bring value to our lives in times of turmoil where calamities such as pandemics and wars pose powerful threats? Addressing this proposition, SCAI THE BATHHOUSE proposes viewpoints of its representing artists.
The booth highlights include the latest works by a contemporary Korean artist unit, Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho, whose solo exhibition Seoul Weather Station at Art Sonje Center garnered critical acclaim during the last edition of the fair.
Moon in the Ground no.5 (2015) by Tatsuo Miyajima reflects the surrounding environment on its mirror surface, interspersed with LED digital counters marking time's passage, recalling the phases of the moon and twinkling stars as well as the cycle of nature and its constant state of flux.
While Ether#90 (2023) by Kohei Nawa invites us to the microscopic world revealing liquid's physical property, his painting Dune#63 (2023) contrastingly evokes a bird's-eye view of the earth.
The exhibition creates a multilayered world with the addition of works by Mitsuko Miwa, Toru Kamiya, and Bosco Sodi.
Concluding the exhibition is Anish Kapoor's Oriental Blue (2021), whose highly polished surface distorts reflections of the surroundings and creates peculiar sonic effects, amplifying and altering the viewer's auditory perception.
