Tyler Shields is a Los Angeles based photographer best known for his controversial staged photographs of Hollywood’s rich and famous. Reveling in the over-saturated dirty-glam aesthetic that is unique to LA and its celebrity inhabitants, Shields pushes his subjects to the limits in his quest to create increasingly shocking images.
Read MoreShields’ visual vocabulary of high heels, red lipstick, sharp suits and panoramic Californian sunsets constitutes the subject matter of photographs that both celebrate and critique a culture of celebrity obsession. Shield’s recent series ‘Suspense’ captures his designer clad starlets in mid-air as they leap from buildings or are tossed into the air. The sense of a captured moment alludes to the dynamism of the film still and the gloss of the magazine photo-shoot. Shields’ open dialogue with the very media he appears to critique echoes the love-hate relationship often established between celebrity culture and the public.
Shields has held solo exhibitions in Moscow, London, Cincinnati and Los Angeles. In 2013 Shields released his first feature film ‘Final Girl’ starring Abigail Breslin. His work is in collection at the Tate Modern, London.
