Highlights of this year's fair include an influx of Turkish galleries, an AI gaze into masculinity, and works by leading African artists.

Photo London has announced over 100 exhibitors who will present at Somerset House from 16–19 May.

A VIP preview will take place on 15 May.

'This year, we're delighted to present a number of first-time exhibitors to the Fair — including, close to my own heart, a contingent of eight galleries from Turkey thanks to the support of Turkish Bank,' said Fair Director Kamiar Maleki, former director of Contemporary Istanbul.

The Turkish galleries presenting at the fair for the first time are Dirimart, Galeri Nev Istanbul, GALERIST, March Art Project, SANATORIUM, Versus Art Project, Vision Art Platform, and Galeri Nev.

Across the fair, images span the full history of photography, from works by British pioneers experimenting with the medium in the 1840s, presented by Robert Hershkowitz Ltd, to Sander Coer's canny use of AI imagery to construct memories and mess with notions of masculinity.

Photo London's Discovery Section features works by emerging photographers and galleries. This year, according to section curator Charlotte Jansen, 'there's a focus on durational projects, contrary to the idea of photography as the "point and shoot" medium.

In the Discovery Section, Brighton gallery Koop Projects will present a booth dedicated to African women artists including Senzeni Marasela, who represented South Africa at the Venice Biennale in 2015, and Mozambican photographer Yassmin Forte, whose practice delves into family archives to shed light on the impacts of colonialism and migration.

'Our aspiration is to be a fair that is as thought-provoking as it is beautiful, and that is engaging to all,' said Maleki. —[O]
