We made many new discoveries and re-encountered some of the greats at the main exhibition of the 59th Venice Biennale, among them Jadé Fadojutimi, Charline von Heyl, and Christina Quarles.

Jadé Fadojutimi has reached stratospheric heights at auction in recent years, achieving $1,653,436 USD for her painting Myths of Pleasure, sold at Phillips London in 2021.

Composed of overlapping lines and colours through which she negotiates her sense of identity, the artist's paintings are now on view at The Hepworth Wakefield until 25 September 2022, and will show at Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo later this year.

Another favourite were the fluid, amorphous bodies present in Christina Quarles' paintings, which have been shown at institutions and galleries across the globe in recent years, including the Frye Art Museum and MCA Chicago.
