We recently came across the work of Victor Bengtsson, a young Danish artist who is currently the subject of a solo exhibition at Mendes Wood DM's São Paulo space.
Born in Copenhagen in 1997, Victor Bengtsson's dreamlike canvases draw on the theatrical presentation of Art Nouveau painting, populated with bucolic imagery, such as floral motifs, mythological figures, and other anthropomorphic forms.
His technique is particularly interesting, involving thinly applied layers of oil paint on jute canvases, allowing the raw texture and natural colour of the material to work its way into the theatrical scenes.
