Gao Jié graduated from Xiamen University (China) in Arts Education, and arrived in France in 2002 to study at the School of Fine Arts in Le Mans, Cherbourg, Orient and Rouen. These years at the Beaux Arts allowed him to understand the French artistic landscape, to understand the differences between his country of origin and his host country. He began to exhibit very early and his work is now very present on the French and Chinese art scene.Read More
Gao's practice followed the French-style doubts of the world and philosophical interrogation, which is why his works have focused on the relations between existence and spirits of modern people, individual and society as well as illusion and reality. His production, very prolific, invested all mediums; video, sculpture, drawing, photography, painting or installation. Gao Jié feeds on both Eastern and Western philosophical readings. He tries to answer these existential questions that inhabit each one of us. Gao Jié seeks to be closer to a universal vision, close to the nature of being. It erases the distinctive signs to obtain a deeper, more natural, more personal point of view. For him, it is first of all an idea, a sensation, an emotion, a sentence, that he will put in a notebook. He will then look for the best way to re-present them: the video to express his relationship to time, the sculpture falls immediately into space and the drawing, more sensitive, will reflect an inner movement.
