NO·NO represents mostly Portuguese and Spanish artists who engage with a wide spectrum of media and concerns, from the black-and-white ceramics of Pablo Barreiro and María Mrntrd’s poetic installations to Ana Pérez-Quiroga’s institutional critique in her installation and photographic works.
Lisbon-born artist Magda Delgado’s works, on the other hand, are inspired by the writings of such philosophers as Henry David Thoreau and Arthur Schopenhauer, through which she explores ideas of transcendence and the natural world. Filipe Cortez, an itinerant artist who has lived in Porto, New York, and Taipei, amongst other locations, examines the memories embedded in architectural spaces in his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installation, while Carlos Mensil, who also lives in Porto, often utilises rubber tubes, pulleys, and motors to create kinetic sculptures.
NO·NO Exhibitions and Art Fairs
NO·NO organises focused solo exhibitions, notably the presentations EXÚVIA, by Filipe Cortez; Defeito Desfeito, by Diogo Bolota (2020), curated by Luísa Especial; and Latitude, by Gema Rupérez. The gallery regularly attends art fairs at home and abroad, including ARCOlisboa, Lisbon; Artesantander, Spain; Estampa, Madrid; and JUSTMAD, Madrid.
