This book is published in conjunction with the first Jeff Koons exhibition in Brussels since 1992, when Made in Heaven was revealed to the Belgian public. For the first time at Almine Rech Gallery Brussels, the exhibition crowned that summer’s havest: it concluded, recapped, but also expanded again, on this extraordinarily rich and fecund season of exhibitions of Koons’ oeuvre.
Jeff Koons was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1955. He studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1976. Koons lives and works in New York City.
Since his first solo exhibition in 1980, Koons’s work has been shown in major galleries and institutions throughout the world. His work is the subject of a major exhibition organised by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Jeff Koons: A Retrospective (27 June–19 October 2014), which traveled to the Centre Pompidou Paris (26 November 2014–27 April 2015) and the Guggenheim Bilbao (12 June–27 September 2015). Recent exhibitions in Europe include Jeff Koons in Florence installed at Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy (25 September–28 December 2015) and Balloon Venus (Orange), which was on view in the rotunda of the Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria (30 September–13 March 2016).
