Video and performance artist, Lida Abdul’s work confronts the reality of life as a refugee, scrutinizing the tension between the loss of place of origin and the survival of culture and identity. Her most well known works suggest possible reinterpretations of architecture and its relation to cultural identity. Reflecting on the physical changes to her home in Afghanistan, Abdul's videos fuse Islamic, Buddhist and Hindu with western formal aesthetics. Born in Kabul, she lived in Germany and India as a refugee, before relocating to Los Angeles, where she is currently based.
