Arario Gallery is pleased to participate in the inaugural edition of ART SG 2023 from 12 to 15 January 2023 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre (GALLERIES BE05) in Singapore. Returning to Singapore for the first time in four years since the start of COVID-19, Arario Gallery intends to revitalize the Singaporean art market, which had been affected by the pandemic, through its involvement at ART SG. Arario Gallery will present works by twelve artists who are active across Indonesia, Japan, China, the Philippines, and Korea, each representing the contemporary art scene in Asia.
As one of Asia's leading galleries, Arario Gallery will introduce new works by Southeast Asian artists who have worked closely with the gallery for many years. Works by Eko NUGROHO, Indonesia's leading contemporary artist, who has held solo exhibitions at the Asia Society, New York; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia; and Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Paris, will be shown alongside those of Leslie DE CHAVEZ, whose works sublimate the historical events of the Philippines through artistic interpretation, catching the attention of many Southeast Asian collectors. A new series by Geraldine JAVIER, an artist who expresses the theme of unavoidable fate, such as death or good and evil, by referencing images from nature, will also be on view.
Notable works include paintings by JUNG Kangja (1942-2017) from the 1980s and 90s, which capture the dynamic and vibrant landscapes from the artist's travels across Central and South America, Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Pacific Ocean. By reintroducing these works, Arario Gallery provides an opportunity to shed light on the artist's life and practice. The works of JUNG Kangja, one of Korea's leading avant-garde artists who led the early happenings and performance art in Korea, will be included in the Korean avant-garde art exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, and Whitechapel Gallery, London in 2023.
In addition, works by Kohei NAWA, who recently held a solo exhibition commemorating the reopening of Arario Gallery Shanghai; GWON Osang, who is currently participating in the Hallyu! The Korean Wave group exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England; LEE Jinju, who will be exhibiting at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture in the Netherlands next year; LEE Jeongbae, who recently joined Arario Gallery; and other artists including AHN Jisan, LIANG Manqi, NOH Sangho, and Uji Handoko Eko Saputro, who work both domestically and internationally, will be individually highlighted at Arario Gallery's presentation for ART SG.
