Art Delight, a culture planning company, installed an art piece on the Statue of King Sejong in Kwanghwamoon, in collaboration with the Seoul City, Institut Francais, and French artist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac to celebrate the 130 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and France. According to the artist, he wanted to realize an image of King Sejong flying in mid-air surrounded by strong rays of light by putting a three dimensional golden frame around Statue of King Sejong. The Hangeul design in this installation brings together vowels and consonants in a square frame and the golden frame displays the excellence of Hangeul's design. This appeared to be very interesting, scientific, and beautiful letters in the eyes of artist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The symbols on the four corners of the golden frame were inspired by King's Sejong's creation process of Hangeul. The artist made special efforts to send messages of hope to the young generation of the Republic of Korea through the symbols that represent the meanings of 'SEE,' 'DO,' 'LOVE,' and 'FLY,' Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is not only well known as a fine artist most representative of France, but also known as a renowned French avant-garde fashion designer famous for his vestment for Pope John Paul II, archbishops, and 5,500 priests, and dresses renowned popstars, such as Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Two months ago, he garnered world attention for leading the redesign of the Orly International Airport of France (Aéroports de Paris) and he also held his first art exhibition in Asia in Korea in June 2015.
