Sean Landers is unarguably one of the most important artists to emerge from the United States in the 1990′s. His work continues to exert an influence on succeeding generations of artists, somehow remaining vital to each younger generation despite Landers’s consideration of decidedly (older) generation-specific topics such as mid-career and middle-age crises. The vitality of this work consists in a spot-on honesty and humor which is tempered by the artist’s highly self-aware use of artifice; it is this delicate and precarious balance to which artists and a more gneral audience of any generation continue to relate.
