Live and work in São Paulo
The Campana Brothers, a Brazilian designer duo, are leading the modern design world with creative work, and are considered today’s most influential designers. Here are keywords which can summarize their designs with the rediscovery and recycling of everyday objects, the use of bright and vibrant colors, and infinite textures and etc.
Inspired by their own culture and reality, they combine everyday objects in unexpected ways. Their perceptions in environmental and social issues are humorously melted in the process of choosing the subject matter. The Favela armchair, one of the Campana brothers’ best-selling designs, is made from scraps of wood discarded at the fruit market, which is the homage to the local of São Paulo’s slums, who modified the structure of the material by hand. In case of the chair series on which stuffed toys are densely attached, ready-made dolls or specially crafted dolls through sustainable fair trade production method are used. Through the Campana brothers’ hand works, the materials are reborn as a new design chair during maintaining the original sociocultural context and newly incorporated into the area of high-end design. The works of the Campana brothers acquire artistry and functionality and attempt social consideration through their works at the same time.
Estudio Campana, headquartered in Sao Paulo, is constantly exploring new possibilities in design from furniture making to architecture, landscape, scenery, fashion and etc. Through not only working with a variety of brands and industries but also collaborating with communities and artists around the world, they keep refreshing the design of the Estudio Campana.
The Campana Brothers’ furniture, objects, and installations have their roots in Latin America, but they have been spreading out around the world. They have held solo exhibitions at a number of internationally renowned art museums, including the National Museum of Decorative Arts in France, the Vitra Design Museum, and V&A Museum in the UK. Some of their works are in permanent collections such as the MoMA, Center Pompidou, National Museum of Decorative Arts, and Vitra Design Museum.
