Carlos Medina - 1953, Barquisimeto, Venezuela Lives and works between Caracas and Paris

In 1975, just graduated from the School of Plastic Arts in Caracas, he had his first major solo exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo: Abstracciones geométricas espaciales. There he presented geometric sculptures in iron and stone. The same year he won the sculpture prize at the 4th National Salon for Young Artists organised by the National Institute of Culture and Fine Arts.
In 1977, thanks to grants from the Italian government and the Foundation for Culture and Arts (Fundarte), Caracas, he travels to Italy and settles in Carrara. This seven-year stay is an opportunity to explore new materials, learn about sculpture techniques and 3D modeling. He works in Carlo Andrei's studio, at the Gonari Marmi industry and takes several courses at the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts. He also works on bronze sculpture at the Fonderia Mariani in Pietrasanta. During this period he participates in exhibitions, symposia and events in several European countries.
Medina returns to Venezuela in 1984, he takes up sculpture in iron and steel and dedicates this production to the urban scale. Over the following decades, he developed more than twenty monumental works, including Fragment of Rain in Caracas.
