Yen, Ye-Cheng (b.1955) is a Taichung-born artist. He graduated from Department of Fine Arts, National Academy of Arts in 1978. In 1991, he departed for Graduate Institute of Art Studies, State University of New York, and earned the M.A. degree after three years of study. Besides, Yen have participated in myriads of solo and group exhibitions since 1988, which his two latest solo shows were both held at the Main Trend Gallery, naming Dao Dao Ling and Fountainplant Ling. For Yen, he aimed to reveal the charm of the east from western materials as well as to convey his understandings of live from the abstract flora. By transforming into his language of illustration, he expressed his thoughts and perceptions onto the canvas. From perceiving the world and arranging his mind, the figures of the outer appearances sublimed. It turns into color, texture and lines that composes to the abstract paintings. Yen employs the outline of plants, and develops it into endless imaginations. In his work, depictions of observed silhouette are abandoned, instead, it is presented in brushstrokes flowing, smearing and repetitively stacking.
