This year, the stand is focused on just four artists, exhibiting four major works.
Pierre Alechinsky was recently named as the laureate of the prestigious Praemium Imperiale, presented by the Emperor of Japan on the basis of recommendations by an international committee. We are presenting Nord perdu, a large blue painting with marginalia; dating from 2014 it is a particularly emblematic example of the artist’s work.
Jean Dubuffet, Chien de guet I, a 3.15m high new sculpture. Galerie Lelong & Co. now works with the Fondation Dubuffet to produce enlargements according to the instructions of the artist, using models and plans held in trust by the foundation. An exhibition of monumental sculptures by Jean Dubuffet was organised by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam during Summer 2017.
Günther Förg–Since his death at the age of 61 in 2013, the artist’s work has acquired an enviable position in the contemporary art world. A superb retrospective is currently organised at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam before going on to the Dallas Museum of Art. At the FIAC, we are showing a large and brightly coloured painting from 2007.
Joan Miró is the focus of a major retrospective at the Grand Palais in Paris this autumn. After the exhibition entitled Femmes, oiseaux et monstres (1930–1950) in September at the gallery (which is continuing in our new exhibition space at 38 avenue Matignon), at the FIAC we are showing l’Oiseau solaire, one of the most famous of Miró’s large sculptures. This bronze work, conceived in 1946 and produced in 1966 in this scale, was recently acquired from the artist’s estate and is the last extant cast. The others are included in public or private museum collections (MoMA New York, Art Institute Chicago...).
