Jean-Baptiste Huynh, a photographer born in Châteauroux in 1966, has chosen the human gaze, the play of light, and timelessness as the themes of his work. The result is a pared-down photography, often in black and white, arranged in series: Portraits, Nudes, Mirrors, Fire, Sunsets, Nature. His work has been exhibited in a number of museums and galleries around the world. In France, in 2006, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris organised a retrospective of his work and in 2012, the Musée du Louvre invited him to show Rémanence, an exhibition of his photography inspired by the Museum’s collections.
For his first exhibition at Galerie Lelong, the artist has chosen to present two themes that have been the focus of his efforts for some 20 years, around the world: images of women and of the plant world. This relationship between nudes and plants had its first manifestation in the Grand Palais during Paris Photo in November 2015, and will also be presented during the season of art exhibitions at the Domaine of Chaumont-sur-Loire from 2 April 2016. Meanwhile, in July, in Vietnam, an exhibition on Vietnamese woman will be organised at the Museum of Beaux-Arts in Hanoi, while the Institut Français will host a retrospective of his work on Vietnam since 1997.
To be published in March 2016: Nature by Jean-Baptiste Huynh. A book about the image of women and the plant world. Prefaced by Siri Hustvedt with texts by Henry-Claude Cousseau, Emanuel Ungaro and Antonio Damasio. Editions du Cil & Editions du Regard. €65
