2018 has been a year rich in recognition for the work of Pierre Alechinsky. It started in January with the completion and incorporation into the collection of the Mobilier National of his great tapestry, Le Volturno, and then continued in October with the award of the Præmium Imperiale for painting. This prestigious prize, created in Japan in 1989 and often known as the Nobel of the Arts, recognises the highest standards of contemporary creation and is awarded for an entire body of work.
As 2018 draws to a close, Galerie Lelong and Co., which is honoured to have represented Pierre Alechinsky for the last 40 years, is exhibiting for the first time in its new space in avenue Matignon, the fruits of a prolific and inventive year. At the heart of the exhibition is a series of 12 paintings of the same dimensions, produced to illustrate Astrologie poétique by Léon-Paul Fargue, as well as larger paintings in warm colours that, as always, combine spontaneity and technical mastery.
