Steffen Diemer Biography

In 2011 he discovered for himself the technical process of wet-plate collodion photo print, which draws on the 1852 applied ambrotype. On a glass plate previously sensitized in the silver nitrate bath, a collodion layer is applied and exposed. When the photograph is developed, it is removed from the fixer and the image is baked under an open flame using a mixture of gum sandtrack and lavender oil.

Steffen Diemer lives as a freelance photographer near Mannheim. The book In Praise of Shadow by the Japanese writer Junichiro Tanizaki (1886 - 1965) has had a lasting influence on his artistic work.
