Bojan Brecelj Biography

His creative work encompasses the field of visual communication and primarily expresses itself through photography–documentary, experimental and fine art. When it comes to documentary photography, he focuses on themes that relate to the environment, continual development and societal changes, while tackling possible solutions and the positive aspects of said issues. Between the years of 1988 and 2002, Brecelj worked as a freelance photographer and collaborated with various magazines and photography agencies in France, Italy, England and Germany (such as Gamma, Still Pictures, Visum, Saola, Grazia Neri, Corbis).

His longest and most fruitful collaboration was with Sygma France, an agency nowadays known as Corbis France. His fine art photography explores the complexity of visual perceptions and is deeply rooted in nature, Brecelj's ceaseless source of inspiration. Some of the most widely known publications in which he publishes his work are Geo Korea, Dazed&Confused, Focus UK; his most renown book is a monograph titled Strange Friends (Stemmle edition, Zurich-New York, 1998) and his most renown exhibition is Mayland, Ljubljana, Nottingham, Beograd, 2002. He is a co-founder of the photography agency IPAK Images (2001– 2010 ) in Ljubljana.
