Gallery Baton is pleased to present a curated group exhibition of seven artists titled Will for Shape and Its Expansion, including Liam Gillick, Koen van den Broek, Bae Yoon Hwan, Bin Woo Hyuk, Chung Chi Yung, Hugh Scott-Douglas and Peter Stichbury.
While a particular style of art flourishes at a certain period and a certain geographical location is used as a criterion for forming an art movement, the final artworks inevitably reveal the visual and conceptual differences even when the artists are attracted to a common theme at a similar time and space. This depends on how the artist's 'will for shape' is reflected on the appropriated image and how it 'expands' to bring noticeable difference.
These seven artists collectively achieve 'will for shape and its expansion' by emptying and filling in the different aspects from the original scenes. It will also allow spectators to experience an unexpected harmony earned by highly selected works representing the artists' own aesthetic approaches to the society, culture, geographical location they belong to.
