Hauser & Wirth’s presentation at Art Basel spans the breadth of the gallery’s program, showcasing the very best work from the gallery's contemporary artists as well as masterpieces of the early 20th century from estates and prominent international collections, including: Hans Arp, Max Bill, Joan Miró, Francis Picabia, and Georges Vantongerloo.
The booth will have a focus on American powerhouse artists who were working at the forefront of abstraction, including Philip Guston, Jack Whitten, and Arshile Gorky, whose first Italian retrospective is currently showing at Ca'Pesaro in Venice.
To mark a special interest in Italian art, the booth will include major works by Alberto Burri, Enrico Castellani, Piero Manzoni, Medardo Rosso, and an important 'Cut Painting' by Lucio Fontana.
2019 represents Hauser & Wirth's largest ever presence in the Unlimited sector, and includes installations from six artists: Larry Bell, Zoe Leonard, Fausto Melotti, Mika Rottenberg, Franz West, and Paul McCarthy, whose virtual reality experiment represents the first time an art fair has presented an artwork in VR.
