Los Angeles-based artist Henry Taylor will present a focused selection of paintings and sculptures at Hauser & Wirth Southampton, including a selection from his recent exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Somerset earlier this year. Works on view reflect Taylor’s interest in the full breadth of the human condition and the social movements and political structures that shape it. His highly personal visual vocabulary is rooted in depictions of the people and communities closest to him, layered with broader cultural references. Among works on view that capture the wholly unique character of his figurative oeuvre will be rarely seen paintings from the Jockeys and Caddies series. In a process Taylor describes as ‘hunting and gathering’, he culls visual cues from his cultural landscape at a vigorous pace, reflecting his uncanny insight into societal patterns as they are expressed in the commonplace objects, disparate materials, and detailed memories that he reconfigures in evocative sculptures.
