In 2015, Wermers was a Turner Prize nominee, for which she exhibited the installation Infrastruktur, originally shown at Herald St, London. Wermers is currently a professor of sculpture, ceramics and glass at Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Munich. In 2016, she launched her artist's book Croissants & Architecture published by Motto Books.

In 2018, Wermers had a two-person solo exhibition with Markus Amm at Herald St | Museum St, London. Following this, Wermers unveiled her public commission for Cambridge University and participated in the 2018 Athens Biennale. In March 2018, Wermers had her most comprehensive solo show to date, Women Between Buildings, at Kunstverein in Hamburg, accompanied by a major monograph. Recent solo exhibitions include: Infrastruktur, Herald St, London (2015), The London Shape, Stanley Picker Gallery, Kingston University, Kingston upon Thames (2014); Manners (site-specific sculpture), Tate Britain, London (2013); II Dehors, Villa Massimo German Academy, Rome (2012); Hôtel Biron, Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf (2011) and Masse und Auflösung at Aspen Art Museum, Aspen (2007).

In 2019, Wermers will participate in the Emscherkunst 2019, Ruhr Area, Germany and Magical Soup, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin.
