An solo online exclusive show by Peter Panyoczki.
Karin Weber Gallery is pleased to present RE-FLECTIONS, a selection of new works by renowned Hungarian/New Zealand artist Peter Panyoczki.
Reflections is a word that can be defined both as the physical reflection of light as well as serious thought or consideration. Having encountered several life changing experiences in the past two years, Panyoczki commenced a contemplative, inward journey, now shared through his art.
Says the artist:
I believe that art has the capacity to express the primary, and perhaps invisible subtext, which can not be expressed by words.
At the start of this 2021, I approached a realm, which was unknown to me and made me dive into an unchartered psychological journey. I had a stroke that deprived me of speech . My verbal communication came to a halt and I couldn't make any meaningful sense. I had the feeling, that I was in a forest of ruined words, which were like hurdles of trees, I had to climb over in order to give them shape again.
Shortly after coming home from hospital, I went into my studio. This was the starting point for my exhibition. My light fell over the vulnerability of our senses and revised paths of my thinking and art. I remembered the most beautiful and truly appropriate (Bible) text of Paul to the Corinthians (1-13): 'For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.'
These words serve as my guiding rope. Each of my works represent generally‚ poetic or metaphoric elements, that can be combined into a multi-faceted narrative. The number of art works in an exhibition is limited. Nevertheless, here they suggest an expression of RE-FLECTION, in part of a retrospective of my past artistic positions, a glimpse to my own history, a series of open, unwritten but enigmatic ‚books', but also in a greater sense, a hint (at) our cultural origin.
I am talking about the distant memories, not just those which are piled up onto the crust of our personal psyche but are also reminiscent in the sediment of our human history. We are elements of the chain that is forming us. In this exhibition I combine works, that can be sawn into a multifaceted narrative, always under the guidance of:
'I know that I don't know'.
