Real Fakes is already the sixth solo exhibition at the gallery by Johan De Wit (°1960, Belgium). It is about the inability and the need to speak, about showing what cannot be said.
The artist's technical mastery is astonishing, but it is subservient and does not want to overwhelm us. Most of the works seem to refer to reality and not to reality at the same time. His work tilts and tumbles between heaviness, melancholy, humour, comfort, and care. De Wit eagerly grabs from art history, but his work remains enigmatically poetic and elusive. De Wit leaves thinking open, and exposes feeling. His work resonates.
