Since opening its doors in 1993, Liang Gallery has pioneered the promotion of modern and contemporary Taiwanese art. With a location in Neihu Technology Park, Taipei, Liang Gallery organises compelling exhibitions that encourage academic research and international exchange.
Liang Gallery represents generations of artists from the early 20th century to the contemporary period. There are masters such as Chen Cheng-po and Liao Chi-Chun, who were among the first to adopt Western-style painting techniques in Taiwan, and modernist sculptors including Huang Tu-Shui, Paul Tien-Shen, and Wang Shui-Ho. Prominent post-war artists include Yu Peng, Lee Chung-Chung, Chao Chung-Hsiang, and Richard Lin, who are recognised for their abstract ink-wash works and experimentations with ideas of modern Western art.
Younger artists represented by Liang Gallery explore both contemporary and traditional ideas and media. There is Wu chien-Yi, who works with collages and installations to examine the effects of the e-commerce industry; Jam Wu, whose works with paper focus the connections between the past and present; and Chen I-Chun, whose animations, videos, paintings, and interactive projects are concerned with social issues; among others.
Notable exhibitions at Liang Gallery include retrospective exhibitions such as Simple Noble: The Artist Careers of Liao Shiou-Ping (2019) and My Way in One Continuous Strand — A Retrospective Exhibition of Cu Ko (2018), and Passing Inheritance to the Future Generations / Visible and Invisible (2018): a group exhibition that celebrated the gallery’s 25th anniversary by bringing together 100 years of artworks by Taiwanese artists.
Dedicated to exhibiting works by Taiwanese artists both at home and abroad, Liang Gallery participates in numerous contemporary art fairs such as Art Basel in Hong Kong; Art Brussels; ART DÜSSELDORF; Art Taipei; Taipei Dangdai; LOOP Fair; and viennacontemporary.
