Having been influenced by the craftspeople in her family from a young age, Sonya Clark creates works with fibres such as human hair to investigate and address issues surrounding race, class, culture, and history. Clark's Afro-Carribbean heritage has influenced her artistic practice and lead her to create works that evoke African traditions of personal adornment.
