Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea is glad to present a group exhibition involving over 40 artists that have collaborated and left a profound mark throughout 25 years of Mimmo Scognamiglio's career as a gallerist. The exhibition coincides with the re-opening of the Italian art industry, among the others, after the global pandemic that hit Milan and its region in particular. The artworks, selected from the gallery's archive, remind of a joyful, multifaceted universe. The works intertwine by following the long-lasting sense of affection that still links these artists to the gallerist. With this exhibition Mimmo Scognamiglio wants therefore to celebrate a symbolic reinaissance.
The viewers are invited to enter a 'house of mirrors', as suggested by the title, and to recognise themselves in their reflection, using their personal imagination and sensibility, and leaving aside vanity and self-criticism. The artworks let irony, or distress, memories and lost fragments emerge, and deep sensations connected to once visited places.
The mimesis process is sparked directly by the viewers' look at these artworks, that act as the main characters of this play, while the artists step aside for a moment. The artworks, filled with themes now shifted by the global events that have hit everyone indiscriminately, trigger a reflection on the past, and at the same time help us to figure ourselves in an uncertain but yet optimistic future.
