Peres Projects is pleased to present Daniele Toneatti's (b. 1989 in Venice, IT) first solo exhibition at the gallery and his first in Milan. Working primarily in painting, Toneatti engages with the ubiquity of images in contemporary life, and their circulation across the now porous boundaries that used to structure cultural ecosystems. Drawing inspiration from various sources ranging from stock photographs to art historical references, his work superimposes images to create composite paintings that echo current patterns of visual consumption in today's image economy.
Having started as a fashion designer, Toneatti's career path itself reflects his intuitive grasp of the ongoing de-hierarchization and heterogenization of culture and its consumption. This blurring is also evidenced in the formal diversity of the work itself, where virtuosic technical skills coexist with more immediate and intuitive approaches found in drawing and abstraction.
