Artist or mother? The great question for female artists, historically and contemporaneously. As a consequence of the events of the past year, this divide has sharply broadened. Richard Saltoun Gallery's presentation for Art Basel's latest Online Viewing Room aims to support artist-mothers and addresses the intersectional struggles that disproportionately affect women artists with caring responsibilities across history, as well as during and most likely beyond the current health crisis. The presentation will feature work by two female artists Violet Costello and Holly Stevenson, who have been recognised by the Procreate Project (PCP), the only arts organisation dedicated to supporting contemporary artists who are mothers.
