Born in Düsseldorf, Germany in the 1950s, Manfred Müller keeps studios in his hometown and in Los Angeles, where he relocated in the 1990s. After having received his license as an industrial engineering draftsman in the late 1960s, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, and immediately following, was awarded grants from the city of Düsseldorf, and the German Industry Endowment of the Arts. His permanent large-scale sculpture and stunning public installations can be found in Cologne, Germany, Münster, Germany, as well as Agoura Hills, California. One of his most widely recognised public works is Twilight and Yearning, a trio of massive steel dories, which have occupied a conspicuous place under the Santa Monica pier since the summer of 1997. His unique works on paper can be found in private and public collections worldwide including those of the Deutsche Bank, The City of Santa Monica Arts Foundation and the Frederick Weisman Foundation to name a few.
