These works are a result of my studies of Tibetan red-ground paintings, as well as the technique of applying thin and fluid gold lines called “ser ri”. It is probably only in Tibet that artists placed such emphasis on gold painting: while gold has been used around the world in paintings, it was used to highlight and complement other pigments, and never used as the sole pigment. I have tried to study these paintings to see if this distinctive Tibetan style could be translated and made applicable to contemporary issues. These works are also a combination of painting and my own poetry, and as a result these are probably my most personal paintings to date.
