HYBRID WORLD.
Conceived by Emerson Kun-Sheng Wang
This is an era full of infinite possibilities. From real to virtual, from reality to fantasy, the boundaries havebeen blurred. We wander around the edge and have the transformation of identity in different interfaces. In the post-colonial implosion of the Anthropocene and the Viral Epoch, with all existing matter, energyand information, redrawing the cross-species island landscape after the epidemic. We must rethink thepluralization of social time and the transspecies politics of life unfolding.
Four artists come from different cultural background. Talia Chetrit (USA, *1982), Andi Fischer (Germany, *1987), João Maria Gusmão (Portugal, *1979), Federico Herrero (Costa Rica, *1978),Jonathan Meese (Germany, *1970). They were born in Generation X and Y. X comes from the letter X ofthe English word Excluding. It is generally written as eXcluding, which has a metaphor of „the excludedgeneration". Generation Y grew up in the era of new technologies where social media is booming, andthey are also facing the challenges of the global economic recession. They are considered to have com-pletely different lifestyles, values and consumption trends from previous generations.
Jonathan Meese explores various themes as revolution, the failures of ideology, and the role andpower of art. The research of colorful and playable site-paintings by Federico Herrero, hides its roots inthe urbanism and in the accurate observation of landscapes. There is a structuralist likeness between thephotographic subject and the final rendering of the images in João Maria Gusmão's photos. AndiFischer's only work reminds of naive children's drawings of animals, people, plants or fantasy creatu-res at first glance, but characters are in conflict with the world and with their own role in it when we lookcloser at the painting. On another level, Talia Chetrit's oeuvre is characterized by the overflow of life, itssurplus: of emotions, experiences, a bright sexuality, boredom, babies, garments. The black and whiteseries Hand on Body, the ambiguous relationship is created by male hands and vague female impressi-ons. A reduced version of the world stands in front of us, inviting viewers to sense the changes itsself andchanges in our environment.
