Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers are pleased to announce their debut at Westbund, Shanghai this year.
Sprüth Magers will present major international contemporary artists such as John Baldessari, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Sterling Ruby, Thomas Ruff and Jenny Holzer. Highlights within the booth include a number of works by women artists that have been with the gallery since its early days in 1980s Cologne. This includes a wall-sized vinyl produced by Barbara Kruger in 2016, reading ‘NEVER ENOUGH’ in her iconic black typeface. Several works by Cindy Sherman are on display, coinciding with her solo show at Fuson Foundation. A photograph from her recent series HOLLYWOOD (2016) is included as well as two arrangements of cut-outs from her infamous early series, Murder Mystery (1976). Alongside this is a recent LED work by Jenny Holzer featuring text from her Truisms series (1977–1979). Andreas Gursky's Tote Hosen II (2014), is displayed on an exterior wall; the large-scale photograph depicts the complex electrical components of the stage set used by legendary German punk band Die Toten Hosen. Ryan Trecartin, whose first solo show in Asia opens at Pond Society on 7th November, is represented with a selection of prints that accompany his show.
