STPI Gallery returns to Art Basel Hong Kong for the 6th consecutive time with key œuvres from Alfredo & Isabel Aquilizan, Dinh Q. Lê, Do Ho Suh and Suzann Victor, created in collaboration with STPI's team of professional printmakers and papermakers.
Highlights include new seminal works from artist duo Alfredo & Isabel Aquilizan, featured in the Kabinett section. These were selected from their critical, ground-breaking exhibition 'Of Fragments and Impressions' (2017), where the artists transformed and reinterpreted their widely-acclaimed temporal installations into extensive material works such as collagraphs and exquisite screen prints, which were painstakingly outlined by hand with cardboard pulp.
The booth also features an impressive suite of Do Ho Suh's new, technically rigorous thread drawings; they were initially developed in 2009 at STPI and have been constantly evolving in scale and complexity. Suzann Victor's hugely popular Cloud series, also on show for the first time, are a testament to her conceptual prowess, where she used paper pulp as the medium with which she paints, hence reversing the role of paper.
Yet another major highlight is never-before-seen photographic weavings by Dinh Q. Lê, taken from his first solo exhibition in Singapore at STPI Gallery running from 17 March12 May. Here, he revisits the subject of the Khmer Rouge, using his works to portray the universal human experience of memory and loss.
STPI Gallery is the only Southeast Asian gallery to take part in all three editions of the Art Basel fairs and in 2017.
