Studio Gallery is thrilled to present the solo exhibition Aesch by Ou Ming on October 31st,2020. It will be the third solo exhibition by the artist in Studio Gallery. This exhibition will be focused on Ou's exploration and practice in sculpture over the last two years.
'Aesch' is the name of a place. There is a mountain with a castle on it. Through the centuries, the roof of the castle has been destroyed, with only some broken walls left. Walking through it, I don't know if I am indoors or outdoors. I don't know if I'm in centuries past or after either. I feel a sense of temporal and spatial disorientation. This imagination and experience of time through the body is the core of what I want to address when I create, and that's the reason why I use Aesch as the theme of this exhibition.'
—Ou Ming
Following on from his last exhibition, this time Ou Ming incorporates ceramics and glass into his work. If a sculpture can be seen as a flower growing in the space where it was created, then these added elements become the containers and make the sculpture adaptable and able to be placed anywhere.
This exhibition is divided into three sections; the entrance room presents a series of four works named Aesch on the circular colour ceramic bases; the room to the left shows three works of the Frohberg Castle series; the Sacred Offerings is placed in the smaller room to the right. The sculptures are in various forms and placed in the different vessels, but their colours are all in flux. By controlling the water of the sculptures, filling or evaporating, flowing or solidifying, the audience is invited to enter Ou Ming's own Aesch.
