Studio Gallery is thrilled to present Liu Jiadong's solo exhibition Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away with the opening reception on October 30.
This exhibition will be the 4th solo exhibition of the artist in Studio Gallery. This time, his recent paintings, including the sketches and oil on canvas paintings will be particularly presented.
The theme of this exhibition _Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away _is based on a quote from the Gospel of Matthew. This quote is closely related to his recent thinking and creation.
'I treat paintings as an experiential activity of combining human will and material. If the process of the activity is open enough—that is, without rigid value judgment and utilitarianism—it will sustain me through the fog of culture and ideology to reach a certain moment of real existence. '
—Liu Jiadong
Liu Jiadong's art practice is always related to specific words such as 'experience' and 'perceive'. Creating a painting can be a free and experiential activity for him, and as such it is a clear reflection of his mind.
In this exhibition, Liu Jiadong continues his usual creative logic. Painting is still a game based on his senses, and his senses are the way in which this game world evolves. Various materials act as non-player characters in this game, creating episodic experiences beyond the subjective rational world.
After accepting the transience of the real world, for Liu Jiadong, the canon of art history and contemporary art is unconsciously excluded from his art creation. The value of the painting is no longer a result-orientated representation but exists only as the basic order of his daily life. Liu Jiadong recognises the multiple senses of space and time of humans. In the vast and irresistible real world, the only thing that an individual as a complex and dynamic being can experience is the experience itself.
