Agatha Gothe-Snape is a contemporary Australian artist whose practice is based on improvisational performance. Found or poetic texts, objects, dance performances, and collaborations characterise her wide-ranging, conceptual oeuvre. Gothe-Snape employs this variety of mediums to challenge the ways in which we relate to one another and to art itself.
Read MoreIn several of her works, Gothe-Snape has collaborated with other performers to explore and suggest connections between time, space, movement, and the body. Notable works include Here, an Echo (2015-16), a commission for the 20th Biennale of Sydney, in which Gothe-Snape collaborated with dancer Brooke Stamp on a score, performance, and descriptive document that has been described as a choreography for the city. The artist’s ongoing series POWERPOINTS is a catalogue provided to paying subscribers that is updated regularly with new works at no extra cost. Works such as Here, an Echo and POWERPOINTS occupy spaces that are both physical and non-physical, emphasising Gothe-Snape’s powerful transparency of process and willingness to go beyond fixed limitations.
