Tolarno Galleries is pleased to present award winning Amos Gebhardt's new exhibition of photographs, Night Horse.
This arresting series of large black-and-white photographs examines the powerful currents between horses as they negotiate consent and desire during mating season.
Shot on a hot summer's night in February 2019, the charged atmosphere is palpable, capturing a rarely seen ritualised courtship between mare and stallion.
'The images are raw,' says Gebhardt, "showing the mess of body fluids and muscle, giving vivid dimensions to the physical language of the body as an archive of story, to suggest a dramatic arc in horse terms."
Each photograph is available in an edition of 5 plus 2 artist's proofs.
Amos Gebhardt was awarded the 2022 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, at Monash Gallery of Art for Wallaby, a c-type print and lightbox.
