Ian Davenport is one of the most celebrated contemporary British artists. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College of Art in London in 1988, Davenport’s work was shown in Freeze, the seminal exhibition of would-be Young British Artists curated by Damien Hirst.

After first experimenting with monochrome and more subdued tones, the artist then proceeded to work with bright, vibrant colour combinations inspired by cars, street signs, and Italian frescoes. Davenport’s preferred gloss paint allows the viewer to see their own reflection in the works, adding another dimension to the paintings.
Among his most notable works are his public commission for the Southwark Bridge, Poured Lines: Southwark, and his thirteen-metre high mural for the 2003 Days Like These exhibition at Tate Britain. Ian Davenport lives and works in London.
Davenport was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1991. His work is held in international public collections including at the Tate London; the Weltkunst Collection, Zurich; and the Dallas Museum of Art, Texas. Recent exhibitions of the Artist’s works have included Colourfall at Waddington Custot Galleries, London (2014); Right Now! At Mission Gallery, Wales (2015); and Ian Davenport at Dan Galeria, São Paulo (2015).
