Nick Austin utilises mundane objects and materials from which he creates works that defy easy interpretation. Though there is a poetic and multi layered reading which reward with observation and thought.

Since graduating Austin has exhibited widely within in Australasia and more recently, in Europe. Austin was a member of the Auckland artists' collective Gambia Castle.
His recent solo exhibitions include: Mail artist's block; Liste 16, Basel; Not haiku, Hopkinson Cundy, Auckland; Two Man Shoe, Peter McLeavey Gallery, Wellington; Paperwork, Gambia Castle, Auckland (2009); Thing locator, Hirschfeld, Berlin (2009); and Retirement (an exhibition within Simon Denny's Deep Sea Vaudeo) at Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne (2009). In 2008 Austin made Aquarium Paintings, a two-person show with Simon Denny at Center, Berlin and in 2009 exhibited with Joshua Petherick at Neon Parc, Melbourne. His work has also been included in prominent group exhibitions such as: Quodlibet II, Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne (2009) and Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon: the 4th Auckland Triennial, Auckland Art Gallery (2010).
