Qwon Sunwang is working with certain visual references of early modern art as fragments of art history, which sensitize cultural memory.
Certain kinds of images reflect intellectual processes of visual perception through styles, formal and compositional patterns, motives, and even coloristic arrangements, which evoke a complex transition towards contemporary culture, manifested in prints, theatrical and cinematographic stages, photographs, and the Internet's digital images.
The visual fragments taken from art history were painterly reconstructed and re-interpreted on the artist's canvas, indirectly but accurately referring to the multi-directional, continuous, and confusing dissemination of visual information.
Qwon Sunwang was born in 1968, and is currently working and living in Seoul, South Korea.
