Ali Cherri is a visual artist and filmmaker born in Beirut and living in Paris. His sculptures, drawings and installations explore the temporal shifts between ancient worlds and contemporary societies, paying particular attention to the construction of historical narrative around ancient objects. His recent solo exhibitions include 'Humble and quiet and soothing as mud' at the Swiss Institute, New York; 'Dreamless Sleep' at GAMeC, Bergamo (2023); 'Envisagement' at Fondation Giacometti, Paris (2024 – Forthcoming), 'Ceux qui nous regardent' at CAC La Traverse, France (2023), 'If you prick us do we not bleed' at The National Gallery, London and The Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry (2022). He was part of group exhibitions at Jameel Arts Center, Dubai; Para Site, Hong Kong; MAXXI Museum, Rome; Centre Pompidou, Paris, Guggenheim New York, amongst others.

He was the 2021/2022 Artist in Residence at the National Gallery, London. In 2022, he received the Silver Lion for his participation in the main exhibition of the Biennale Arte 2022, titled The Milk of Dreams. His first fiction feature film, The Dam, premiered at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and was theatrically released in France, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia and Morocco.
