Andrew Liversidge Biography

Andrew Liversidge (b. 1979, Sydney) makes conceptual objects and videos. He is interested in the romantic quality of the conceptual gesture. Recurrent themes include abstraction and the collapse of finite models, the infinite and its relation to metaphysics and epistemology, limit, order, repetition and paradox. His work often involves self-portraiture.

Liversidge was awarded a Master of Fine Arts at Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne in 2010. In 2009, he was the recipient of the Athenaeum Club Visual Arts Award for the winning entry of Master of Fine Arts exhibition at Victorian College of the Arts. In 2011, he undertook an Australia Council for the Arts Skills and Development Residency at the Citè Internationale des Arts, Paris.

Solo exhibitions include ALL THAT FALL (red yellow blue) at The Commercial Gallery, Sydney (2013); Formulas Work Out: Bodies Go Under at DB Project, Sydney (2011); Nothing for Nothing at Kings ARI, Melbourne (2009) and IN MY MIND I KNOW WHAT I THINK BUT THAT’S ONLY BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE at TCB art inc., Melbourne (2009).

Group exhibitions include Reinventing the Wheel: The Readymade Century, curated by Max Delany, Charlotte Day, Francis E. Parker and Patrice Sharkey, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2013); The Financial Report, curated by Mark Feary at Artspace, Sydney (2013); Or either silver lining, curated by Lisa Radford at TCB art inc., Melbourne and Error and Judgement, curated by Mark Feary at Arts Project Australia, Melbourne (both 2012); Margaret Seaworthy Gothic, curated by Matthew Shannon at Margaret Lawrence Gallery, Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne (2011), Everything’s Alright, curated by Amanda Rowell at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney (2010); To Think We Almost Made It (The Anti-Heroic Gestures of True Romantics) curated by Michael Moran at Firstdraft Gallery, Sydney (2005).
